MiMi's Italian Restaurant & Piano Bar NYC

http://www.mimispianobar.com/

Anytime people ask me what my nationality is? I ask them to guess? 95% of the time they say Spanish or Puerto Rican,  and about 5% say Italian.

I love to watch their face when they hear I am a (Russian Gypsy!) If only there were a bookie where I could place a bet that they would ask me this next question? I would be a very wealthy man!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A RUSSIAN GYPSY? Well, since gypsies do not have their own country hence the word " Travailing Gypsies" this is not an easy question to answer, YOU maybe asking the same question to yourself?

Well, I will give you the same answer I give everyone (GOOGLE IT ) because I'm not a 100% sure myself. But there is one thing I am a 100% sure about the gypsy culture in America, we love our food very Spicy

Cherry Peppers. Black Pepper... Cayenne Pepper... Crushed Pepper... Jalapeno or habaneros are usually the first ingredients in every recipe, and if we can find a Restaurant that can provide dishes with this type of spicy heat, we flock to it.

That's why MiMi's Restaurant & Piano Bar on 52nd and 2nd Ave, is my pick of the week. And even though it's in the heart of New York City, when you walk into MiMi's it gives you that neighborhood feel, where everyone knows each other's names, did someone holler NORM! When I walked in?

MiMi's is on a corner location, so it's surrounded by windows with a great view of the city that never sleeps! Year round Christmas lights, table top candles and a campy piano player who plays old Broadway show tunes and sing along's fill atmosphere and if you tip him he will even take request!

MiMi's is a family own and operated restaurant. For the past 40 years, a member of the household has been a host. They will seat you at a table with a red and white checkered tablecloth, either in the main dining area with a view of their old fashion bar and the piano player or in the outer dining area, with full-length glass windows. The dining areas are separated by a beautiful painted glass mural, which gives a majestic glow when the candles are lit! ( Is it me or does food just taste better on a red and white checkered table cloth? )

If the gypsies only learned one thing from the Hollywood style mafia movies, it would be this,

 ( "T-o.. I-nsure.. P-romptness" )
Tip Everyone!

Because YOU only get what you pay for TIP everyone, and you will get top quality service everywhere you go! So in mafia style, we walk right into the kitchen and tip the cook to ensure special attention to our order.

Now for the nonspicy eaters here are my suggestions. Start off with the garden salad with their blue cheese house dressing, which is thick and rich with chunks of real blue cheese.

For an appetizer try their mushrooms stuffed with prosciutto and covered in a mild marinara sauce, their shell pasta Fettuccine Alfredo with Bacon is perfect for the kiddies as well as the whole table.

But of course, this is the real reason the gypsies go to MiMi's! For their 14 oz NY strip steak and center cut pork chops, both cooked to perfection in red and green Hot cherry peppers. These dishes are so spicy your lips will have a slight burning sensation an hour after your done eating! These dishes are something YOU have to try if you're a hot and spice lover like a gypsy.

Now here was my DILEMMA! After my fantastic night of food, family and sing along's, I got some great pics of the amazing food for my blog, then what happen to me when I got home and tried to upload them on to my PC is every foodie bloggers worst nightmare.

THE SD CARD MALFUNCTIONED, AND 95% OF THE PICS WERE LOST! So of course, panic stuck, and my palms started to sweat, so I took a deep breath and made this 15-second video to my
8,300 Instagram followers!

And this is why I love my foodie family followers because I was flooded with some great pics from their dinner at MiMi's, some fans even found a few pics of myself from a few years back! So to all my Peep's  ONE LOVE BABY!

Despite the malfunction in my life Oop's! I mean on my SD card it really was a great night of delicious food, cozy atmosphere and sing along's! And who know's? After a few cocktails, you just might get the nerve to do a duet with the campy piano singer! You'll never know unless you go, you won't regret it!
